KUALA LUMPUR: Umno supreme council member Datuk Tajuddin Abdul Rahman has claimed that Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad is working with Jewish-owned foreign media to topple the present government.
He claimed the former premier and several Jewish-owned news outlets were involved in a "marriage of convenience" to oust Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
"You know, some of the (foreign) media are controlled by the Jews. They're not happy with we have achieved in this country," he told reporters when met at the Parliament lobby today.
He said this when asked whether there was a concerted effort by these foreign media agencies to topple Najib by highlighting, among others, the 1Malaysia Development Bhd controversy.
He was also asked why several foreign media organisations had written articles or aired programmes on the alleged scandals surrounding Najib.
He said foreign news outlets were not interested in reporting on the country's progress, but instead chose to home in on what he described as baseless allegations.
"How do you know these reports are true? Just because they are the Wall Street Journal, so the reports must be true?"
He said the recent foreign news reports on Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak were unfair, as the issues raised in those reports had already been clarified by the authorities.
Tajuddin said a partnership between foreign news media and Dr Mahathir was possible, as the the latter was even willing to work with longtime political enemies from the opposition.
"Now, they all have something in common: they want to bring down the government, not only Najib. Before, Dr Mahathir could never work with DAP because there was no shared objective.
"The foreign media have a shared objective with this group (Dr Mahathir and the opposition)."
He also told Malaysians to ignore the foreign news reports, which he said were based on unsubstantiated claims.
