KOTA KINABALU: Several trees were uprooted due to thunderstorms and strong winds in some districts of Sabah today (Aug 30).
State Fire and Rescue Department said that it received emergency calls regarding fallen trees and deployed its personnel to the affected areas.
"So far, 13 operations have been carried out by the department after receiving emergency calls from as early as 11am until 6pm.
"These cases include one each for Ranau, Papar, Kota Belud, Sipitang, Kuala Penyu, Tuaran, and Sook.
"During the same period, we conducted operations to clear fallen trees in two cases each in the districts of Putatan, Penampang, and Lintas," the statement said today (Aug 30).
Earlier, the Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) issued a warning for thunderstorms, heavy rain, and strong winds in parts of the state, including Sandakan, Telupid, and Beluran, as well as the Interior (Tambunan) and West Coast (Papar, Putatan, Penampang, Kota Kinabalu, Tuaran, and Kota Belud).
The warning was issued when there were signs of thunderstorms with rain intensity exceeding 20 mm per hour that were either imminent or expected to occur for more than an hour.
