Tunku Mahkota Johor opens RM28m mosque in Bandar Dato Onn

JOHOR BARU: The RM28 million Sultan Iskandar Mosque at Bandar Dato Onn here was officially opened today by the Tunku Mahkota of Johor, Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim.

Accompanying Tunku Ismail were Tunku Temenggong Johor Tunku Idris and Tunku Panglima Johor Tunku Abdul Rahman.

After the opening ceremony, he then performed the Friday prayers along with a congregation of some 1,000 people, including Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin and Johor Corp (JCorp) president and chief executive Datuk Kamaruzzaman Abu Kassim.

The mosque, which is located on a 2.2ha land plot, was developed by JCorp in 2013 and was completed at the end of 2015 and can accommodate up to 4,600 people at one time.

The mosque, with its aqua blue dome and four minarets has a hall, library, seminar room, and administrative office and also has disabled friendly features.

Kamaruzzaman said the mosque will be an iconic landmark in the new Bandar Datuk Onn township.

"The mosque will be managed by Waqaf An Nur Corporation Bhd, the management company that maintains and cares for the five other mosque built by JCorp in Pasir Gudang and Johor Baru," he said.
