JOHOR BAHRU: The Election Commission has been notified on the vacancy of the Mahkota state seat following the death of its incumbent Datuk Sharifah Azizah Syed Zain.
Johor State Assembly Speaker, Datuk Mohd Puad Zarkashi said he notified EC on the vacancy this morning.
Sharifah, 64, passed away on Friday.
In the 2022 state polls, the Kluang Wanita Umno chief won the Mahkota state seat for Barisan Nasional in a four-cornered fight.
She won with a 5,166 vote majority against candidates from Pakatan Harapan, Perikatan Nasional and Warisan.
