MIAMI: An endangered Malayan tiger attacked and killed a zookeeper in its enclosure in Florida Friday as the woman prepared to give a talk to visitors, officials and media reports said.
The victim was Stacey Konwiser, 38, who was the lead keeper at Palm Beach Zoo, Naki Carter, a spokeswoman, told AFP.
The male tiger attacked Konwiser, who had worked for the zoo for three years, at the Night House, an area off-limits to the public designed to keep handlers separate from the animal, CNN affiliate WPBF said.
The zoo says it houses over 700 animals from Florida, as well as North, South and Central America, Australia, and Madagascar. More than 314,000 people visit each year. --AFP
