KUALA LUMPUR: All-girl dance pop trio De Fam is on a "manhunt". Literally.
"Our 'hunt' is for a Singaporean male vocalist to be our guest artiste in the Bahasa Malaysia version of our single With You," said its youngest member Azira Shafinaz Ramlan, 25, when met at the launch of the trio's hosting debut, Dangdut Star at Saloma Restaurant in Jalan Ampang here yesterday.
With You's English version has been getting good airplay, and features American singer-songwriter Brandon Beal as guest singer.
Eldest member Nurshazwani "Cik Manggis" Shamsuddin, 27, said while they are pleased with the response for With You, it is always better to have a Malay version of the song since they have always been bilingual.
"And furthermore, we converse with our fans in Malay daily," quips third member Sophia Liana Sobri, 25.
When asked if they had any Singaporean in mind, the girls chose to keep mum for now.
"There are many great male singers from Singapore, such as the first Singapore Idol Taufik Batisah and teen favourite Sleeq. It's not going to be easy to find "Mr Right" here, but we and our record label hope for the best," said Sophia.
The girls are eager to penetrate the Singaporean market as their plan is to go regional. Their record label Tune Studios will soon be promoting their singles Supergirls and With You in Jakarta, Indonesia.
"It'll be great for us to be Pan-Asean stars one day," said Cik Manggis.
De Fam was formed last year, and its members used to dance for artistes such as Datuk Siti Nurhaliza and Taufik.
Their single Supergirls has hit more than 2.4 million views on YouTube.
