KUALA LUMPUR: The National Transformation Programme (NTP) has delivered impactful results for the country while addressing the crucial socio-economic areas.
In 2015, Key Performance Indicators for the Government Transformation Programme’s National Key Result Areas (NKRAs) registered 99 per cent while the Economic Transformation Programme’s National Key Economic Areas (NKEAs) and Strategic Reform Initiatives (SRIs) recorded 109 per cent and 108 per cent, respectively.
The NTP was mandated to lift Malaysia out of the middle-income band while aligning the country’s socio-economic landscape with that of developed nations based on the New Economic Model (NEM) announced in 2010.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak affirmed that the country is on track in its journey towards high-income status by 2020 at the launch of the NTP Annual Report 2015 today.
"This government must move forward to continue building a resilient, sustainable and inclusive economy for the people.
"No one can refute that Malaysia's economic position and the people's socio-economy is at a good and commendable level.
"Malaysia also has good fiscal discipline which has translated into lower borrowing costs and high market confidence," said Najib, adding that Malaysia has shown resilience as a small open economy.
The report card results also showed the country’s Gross National Income per capita increasing by 30.4 per cent to RM36,285 in 2015 from RM27,819 in 2010.
A total of 1.8 million new jobs have been created in the same period while realised investments accelerated with a compounded annual growth rate of 8.3 per cent between 2011 and 2015 compared to 5.3 per cent between 2006 and 2010.
