Independent shuttler Zulfadli Zulkiffli, was no match for world No 1 Chen Long of China. The Malaysian, who was left out of the Thomas Cup team this year, went down tamely 21-12, 21-10 in just 42 minutes.
Women's doubles Vivian Hoo Kah Mun-Woon Khe Wei, squandered a golden opportunity to upset world No 2 Nitya Krishinda Maheswari-Greysia Polii of Indonesia when they blew away two match points to lose 18-21, 22-20, 21-11.
Mixed doubles Tan Kian Meng-Lai Pei Jing were also outclassed by China's world No 1 Zhang Nan-Zhao Yunlei who easily wrapped up the match 21-10, 21-12.
Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong's bid farewell to their Olympics dream as they were shown the exit by Japan's Takeshi Kamura-Keigo Sonoda in the men's doubles second round. The Japanese duo won 21-13, 21-18.
