Shuttler Siti Zulaikha storms into q-finals at Asia Juniors

KUALA LUMPUR: Shuttler Siti Zulaikha Azmi lived up to her second seeding to reach the girls' singles quarter-finals of the Badminton Asia Junior Championships in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, on Friday.

Zulaikha defeated South Korea's Kim Do Yeon 22-20, 21-16 in the third round at the Among Rogo Sports Hall.

The Malaysian will face Taiwan's Huang Sheng Chun, who overcame Nodoka Sunakawa of Japan 18-21, 21-13, 21-8, for a semi-final spot on Saturday.

Top seeds Aaron Tai-Kang Khai Xing-Aaron Tai defeated Indonesia's Dexter Farrel-Wahyu Agung Prasetyo 17-21, 21-15, 21-15 to set a quarter-final date with China's Xiao Gao Bo-Xue Zi Yu in the boys' doubles.

Compatriots Loh Zhiheng-Tan Zhi Yang eased past Muhammad Hafizh Deedat Baryadi-Calvin Valentino Sifen Tan of Indonesia 21-18, 21-13 to reach the last eight.

Mixed doubles Datu Anif Isaac Datu Asrah-Dania Sofea Zaidi marched into the quarter-finals after dispatching Mark Wong-Zheng Hong Li of Singapore 21-14, 21-11.

Datu Anif-Dania Sofea will face sixth seeds Lin Xiang Yi-Liu Yuan Yuan of China next.

In the girls' doubles, seventh seeds Ong Xin Yee-Carmen Ting defeated Rin Ueno-Mion Yokouchi of Japan 21-8, 21-15 to reach the quarter-finals.

They will face third seeds Isyana Syahira Meida-Rinjani Kwinara Nastine of Indonesia for a spot in the semi-final.
