KUALA LUMPUR: Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun are just one match away from winning their biggest title yet.
On Saturday, the world No. 20 men's pair stormed into their maiden Super 1000 final when they defeated homesters Sabar Karyaman Gutama-Moh Reza Pahlevi Isfahani 29-27, 21-13 in front of a packed Istora Senayan in the semi-finals of the Indonesia Open in Jakarta.
"Before the match we prepared ourselves really well, but when we got on court, it felt like we were against the whole of Indonesia," Wei Chong told the Badminton World Federation (BWF)
"Towards the end of the first game, I told my partner to calm down, don't think about the fans, it doesn't matter who wins the point but calm down," added his partner Kai Wun.
Wei Chong-Kai Wun, who have never made it past the first round in all five of their previous Super 1000 tournaments, will play China's Liang Wei Keng-Wang Chang in the final on Sunday.
The world No. 2 saw off Denmark's Kim Astrup-Anders Skaarup Rasmussen 21-13, 21-15 in the earlier semi-final.
On paper, Wei Keng-Wang Chang will start as favourites as they have never lost to Wei Chong-Kai Wun in all three previous meetings.
However, if anything, Wei Chong-Kai Wun's impressive run at the Istora Senayan this week should prove that anything is possible at the highest level.
"Of course we are happy to be in the final, but our job is not over. We need to prepare for one more match.
"We need to get our game plan right and have the right mindset," Wei Chong said.
