KUALA LUMPUR: LUMPUR: Popular rock musician and actor Awie, was fined RM2,000 by the magistrate's court today for causing hurt to his ex-wife Rozana Misbun.
Awie, 47, whose real name is Ahmad Azahar Othman, pleaded guilty to committing the offence at the Permodalan Nasional Berhad (PNB) counter, Jalan Tun Razak in Kuala Lumpur at 3pm on June 2, 2014.
Awie is best known as the vocalist for legendary local rock band Wings, while Rozana is the sister of actress Haliza Misbun.
Defence counsel Hazman Harun told magistrate Husna Dzulkifly that Awie, a father of five, had regretted nudging Rozana in the forehead.
"The incident happened when Awie realised that his ex-wife had spent the money that was kept for his children's education."
Deputy public prosecutor Ahmad Zikri Jaafar, in requesting for a deterrent sentence, said Awie's action has caused his ex-wife pain, trauma and public humiliation.
"Awie is a well-known personality and he should set a good example to the public."
