IPOH: Police have identified the whereabouts of Islamic State (IS) leader Zainuri Kamaruddin, who has vowed to bring the terror group's campaign to Malaysia.
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the enforcement agency is cooperating with international intelligence agencies to monitor the Malaysian's movements.
"We are monitoring every movement he makes locally and abroad.
" The anti-terrorism team is also monitoring the communications made through social media and the information that have been uploaded and downloaded," he said after chairing a meeting on development programmes for the Kuala Kangsar parliamentary constituency here today.
Present was Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir.
Zahid, who is also the Home Minister, was commenting on New Straits Times' exclusive report today which had exposed Zainuri's activities and skills, including in bomb-making.
Zainuri was reported to have led Malaysian IS members in Syria, and his knowledge of putting together improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and his determination to pass on his skills to others has now made him public enemy No 1.
On the Kuala Kangsar by-election, Zahid said Barisan Nasional (BN) would not introduce a new manifesto as the coalition had agreed to continue fulfilling all the pledges made by its late member of parliament Datuk Wan Mohammad Khairil Anuar Wan Ahmad.
"We will focus on infrastructure projects that the people urgently need in both the Manong and Bukit Chandan state constituencies (under Kuala Kangsar)," said Zahid, who is BN coordinator for the Kuala Kangsar and Sungai Besar by-election.
