Kota Kinabalu airport flooded due to rainstorm [VIDEO]

KOTA KINABALU: The Kota Kinabalu International Airport was flooded today after rainwater seeped through the terminal's glass wall following heavy rain.

The 3.15pm incident saw water pouring from the ceiling at the Level 2 departure hall, catered for domestic flights.

A video clip of the incident, which occurred in front of a souvenir shop, also went viral on social media and WhatsApp.

Malaysia Airports Sdn Bhd Kota Kinabalu airport senior manager Sunif Naiman confirmed the incident.

He stressed that no flights were affected except for some that were diverted due to poor weather.

“The leakage at the ceiling was due to water seeping through the glass wall of the VVIP corridor on Level 3. It led to flooding on Level 2. However, the situation is under control.

“I have inspected the situation and we are carrying out cleaning work as well as rectifying the problem.”

Sunif said power supply was temporarily switched off to prevent any untoward incidences, and said the airport is now operating as usual.
