KUALA LUMPUR: Police have formed a special taskforce to investigate the murder of PKR's Bill Kayong.
Inspector-General of police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said the taskforce would be led by the Sarawak Criminal Investigation Department chief.
"We will also send officers from Bukit Aman's Criminal Investigation Department to assist the investigation," he said.
Khalid was speaking at a press conference after launching the police's Code of Ethics, 2016-2020 Integrity Plan and Standard Compliance Manual books at the Federal police headquarters here today.
Khalid also urged the members of the public not to make any speculation on the case and let the police investigate.
"We are still investigating the case. We cannot ascertain the motive of the shooting at the moment.
"We also urge members of the public who happened to witness the incident to come forward and assist the investigation," he added.
The 43-year-old Miri PKR leader was shot dead by an unknown person while waiting in his truck at a traffic light intersection in Miri, this morning.
It is believed that he was traveling from his home in Senadin heading to his office in Permyjaya, near here when he was killed.
