GEORGE TOWN: Police will leave no stone unturned in their investigation into the murder of a woman and her father at an apartment in Bandar Baru Farlim, Air Itam, this afternoon.
State police chief Datuk Hamzah Ahmad said police were investigating the motive of the double murder from all angles.
"We urge any witnesses to come forward to assist with the investigation.
"We hope the public will not engage in speculation that could affect our inquiry," he said this evening.
Earlier today, it was reported that a 30-year-old woman and her 62-year-old father were stabbed to death by a 32-year-old man at the apartment.
Speculation has been rife that the man had sought to pursue the mother of three, but she rejected his advances.
An argument then ensued.
When her father tried to break up the fight, the suspect stabbed both the father and daughter to death before turning the knife on himself.
Elaborating, Hamzah said police were alerted to the incident at 12.54pm, regarding a suspicious man holding a knife at the apartment.
"Police, when arriving at the lobby lift, found three people lying on the floor covered in blood.
"The woman and her father were confirmed dead, while the suspect was arrested by police.
"The suspect, who had suffered self-inflicted injuries, was sent to Penang Hospital for treatment.
"With the suspect's arrest and the seizure of the weapon used, we consider this case resolved," he added.
The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
The deceased's family has asked for space to mourn their loss.
