KUALA LUMPUR: The Umno Supreme Council has sacked party deputy president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir, effective immediately.
Party president Datuk Seri Najib Razak also said Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal had been suspended pending a report from the Umno disciplinary committee.
"The Supreme Council has unanimously decided to sack Muhyiddin and Mukhriz for breaking party rules, especially when they shared a stage with Opposition leaders to attack the party leadership.
"Therefore, based on their actions, the Supreme Council has decided to sack the both of them (from the party).
"As for Shafie, the Supreme Council has decided to suspend his membership until we receive the report from the disciplinary committee," said Najib, who is also prime minister said after chairing the Supreme Council meeting here, today.
Najib said the Supreme Council would also request the government to stop channeling funds to the Perdana Leadership Foundation, led by former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
This, he said, was based on the calls made by Umno Youth.
He said the foundation was used as a "centre" to plan and topple the government undemocratically.
"The government was chosen democratically and valid under the law, hence, there is no reason for the government to continue any form of contribution to the foundation," he added.
