Below are excerpts of the press conference by Umno president Datuk Seri Najib Razak, following the Umno Supreme Coucil meeting today:
"The Supreme Council has today unanimously decided to sack Yang Berhormat Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and Yang Berhormat Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir, based on their breach of discipline... they had shared the same stage as the Opposition, made speeches with them and attacked the party leadership; as such, these are major breaches of party discipline. As such, based on their conduct, the Supreme Council has unanimously decided to sack both leaders.
“As for Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal, the Supreme Council has decided to suspend his membership until it receives a report from the disciplinary committee. This is because the disciplinary committee has yet to submit the report to the management committee as well as the Supreme Council.
“Based on the calls made by the national Umno Youth movement, the Supreme Council is also asking the government to cease all monetary contributions to the Perdana (Leadership) Foundation, be it in terms of operational funding or the supply of staff for the foundation. The foundation has been used as a centre to plot the downfall of the government via an undemocratic manner. The government was elected in a democratic manner in accordance with the law, but is being attempted to be removed in an undemocratic and illegal manner. As such, there is no reason for the government to continue any funding for the foundation. The staff will be given the necessary notice of termination. We will ask the office of the Chief Secretary to the Government to take subsequent action.”
