KOTA KINABALU: Strange looking clouds that appear like big waves caught the attention of many in districts along the west coast of Sabah.
Known as "arcus clouds", the phenomenon occurred from about 7am until 8am, followed by a brief heavy downpour, particularly in areas around Beaufort and Papar.
Kampung Lumat resident Sitti Sahrah Mohd Desa said she saw the cloud formation on her way to work in Beaufort town at about 7.40am.
"It was gloomy and looked scary. This is the first time I am seeing such clouds," she said adding the clouds cleared after the rain that came with strong winds.
SK Paras Damit headmaster Marif Yusof said he saw it during the weekly assembly when all the pupils were at the compound.
"We were shocked and I had to call off the assembly because it worried me. Then the rain came and fortunately the children were already in their classrooms."
