KOTA KINABALU: Despite being the ruling political party, Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah deputy president Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said its members should not rest on their laurels.
He said those adept at social media have an easier time winning elections.
"I'm active on social media, but when leaders or parties are being attacked, only a few step in to defend.
"Sometimes, there are only 10 to 20 likes on our posts.
"This reflects our attitude—we have become too comfortable because the party is in power.
"There is nothing wrong with pursuing personal achievements, but it should not come at the expense of the party," he said during the launch of the party's convention for youth and women at the Sabah International Convention Centre here.
Earlier, Gagasan Youth chief Datuk Fairuz Renddan said that members should become the frontline defenders of the party and its president Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.
"We are being attacked by the opposition not only on policies and principles, but they are also attacking the personality of our president.
"This clearly shows that they are running out of issues to present to the people of Sabah, so they resort to spreading nonsense and slander."
He said that Gagasan was established to meet the needs of the people who want us to continue the legacy of struggle through a local party.
He described Gagasan Rakyat and GRS as "the best formula" and approach to ensuring that Sabah emerges as a developed state with its people progressing.
"I am optimistic that Gagasan Rakyat will become a strong party.
"This is the manifestation of the people of Sabah.
"They long for a state that is peaceful and prosperous.
"Our duty is to fulfil the wishes and dreams of the people of Sabah, who want to see this state more developed and advanced."
