TAPAH: A total of 1, 019 summonses have been issued to motorists who used the emergency lane from Perlis to Selangor, since Ops Selamat IX began on June 29.
Bukit Aman Traffic Enforcement Investigation Department operations chief (central zone) Superintendent Mohd Radi Abd Rahman said this was a drastic drop compared to previous years.
"In 2014, more than 6,000 summonses were issued to motorists who misused the emergency lane while last year, the number dropped to 4,000 compounds," he said.
Speaking to reporters at southbound Tapah rest area today, Radi attributed the drop to increased awareness by motorists.
Radi also said that jams along the highway occurred in stages, such as at the Menora Tunnel, Simpang Pulai, Gua Tempurung and Tapah.
"Since Friday, an average of 1.3 million vehicles have used the highway," he said.
