(Football) Kunanlan becomes third JDT player to quit international football

S. Kunanlan has retired from international football.

He is the third player to do so after captain Safiq Rahim and defender Aidil Zafuan Radzak.

Coincidentally, all three are from Super League side Darul Ta'zim.

Safiq and Aidil Zafuan made their announcements on Tuesday.

"I have decided to retire from international football. My last international was the 1-1 draw with Fiji recently," said Kunanlan on Johor Southern Tigers Facebook page yesterday.

"I will always cherish the moments playing for the national under-23 and senior teams.

"Thank you for all the support and guidance. I truly appreciate it."

Kunanlan, a former district-level middle distance runner, started off as a winger before switching to the right-back position.

More national players from Darul Ta'zim are expected to quit international football in the next few days.

It is still unclear whether their decision to retire has something to do with Darul Ta'zim owner Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim's negative comments over the national team's training schedule which was posted on the Johor Southern Tigers Facebook page recently.
