KOTA BELUD: Two teachers were killed when the boat they were travelling in capsized at Sungai Rampaian Laut near here.
One of them was identified as Kamariah Hamdan, 47, while identity of the other victim is still unknown.
Eight others including five schoolchildren survived and were rescued by villagers in the 3.40pm incident.
District fire and rescue chief Rozlan Osman said the department received a distress call at 3.45pm and immediately deployed a rescue team to the scene.
"According to the preliminary report, the boat carrying 10 passengers was headed to Pulau Mantanani when it capsized.
"All rescued victims were sent to the Kota Belud hospital for treatment," he said, adding that the two deceased were pronounced dead at the hospital.
It was learnt that the teachers and schoolchildren were travelling from Rampayan Laut to a a school on Pulau Mantanani. The two other victims were the boat's crew.
