Praises, admirations pour in for Paralympian duo

KUALA LUMPUR: Congratulations and praises were showered on Malaysia’s two gold medalists at the Rio Paralympics in Brazil.

The first gold medal was won by Mohamad Ridzuan Mohamad Puzi, Sunday (Saturday in Rio de Janeiro) in the 100m T36 (celebral palsy) event and the second by Muhammad Ziyad Zolkefli with a new world record in the Men’s Shot Put F20 (intellectual disability) event, also on Sunday.

Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin who has been following Malaysian Paralympians' participation at the games tweeted five hours ago: "We just got our GOLD. Paralympic record for Ridzuan Puzi! History is made tonight!"

An hour later he tweeted: “2nd gold for Malaysia! Ziyad gets the gold!”

Malaysian Squash Queen Datuk Nicol Ann David also congratulated on their achievement via Twitter.

“Malaysia's 2nd #Paralympic gold medal & new WR at the Men's Shot Put F20 by Ziyad Zolkefli! Truly amazing! #soproud!

“Wow! Incredible new WR already by Malaysia's Ziyad at the F20 Men's Shot Put! Keep it going! #goodnewsallround!”, she also tweeted.

Diving queen Pandelela Rinong ‏@Pandelela tweeted: "2 gold medals for Malaysia in the #Paralympics and I'm not dreaming!!!:tiger: #proudmalaysian #malaysia #Athletics #RidzuanPuzi #ziyadzolkefli"

Gerakan Youth Chief Tan Keng Liang on his Twitter handle, ‏@tankenglia said: "Congrats Ridzuan & Ziyad for giving Malaysia 2 historic Gold in Rio Paralympics + world record."

He said the sporting heroes should be rewarded as were Malaysian Olympians.

Lembah Pantai MP Nurul Izzah Anwar on her Twitter posting said : “Malaysia creates history with two golds at Rio Paralympics and a world record - I am so proud I'm tearing up!”
