MACC arrests fifth suspect in Sabah Water Dept corruption scandal

KOTA KINABALU: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has picked up a fifth suspect in its ongoing probe into the Sabah Water Department multi-million ringgit graft scandal.

The man, in his 60s, was a former high-ranking officer with a state department.

An MACC source told the New Straits Times that the man currently holds a senior position within the state government.

He was detained at his office yesterday.

“Preliminary investigations suggest that the suspect had received money from contractors when he was serving within the state department.

“The suspect has been remanded for six days from today," the source added.

MACC deputy chief commissioner (operations) Datuk Azam Baki when contacted, confirmed the arrest but declined to elaborate.
