Ringgit still accepted by money changers in Makkah, Madinah, says Tabung Haji

KUALA LUMPUR: Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH) has denied allegations on social media stating that the ringgit is no longer being traded in Makkah and Madinah.

TH public affairs and corporate communication division said checks by their Jeddah office showed that the ringgit is still accepted by most currency exchange establishments in both holy cities.

“The spread of information on social media regarding the failure of ATMs or debit cards with foreign currency withdrawal function is also not true.

“The use of the ATM and debit cards must follow the right procedures and the function must be activated,” the statement read.

TH also advised Malaysian pilgrims who intended to use ATM or debit cards during their pilgrimage to directly contact the relevant banks to get more information on how to use the cards correctly abroad.
