KUALA LUMPUR: Ten people, including a minister's son, have been identified as being involved in the ruckus which took place in front of the Parliament building today.
City police chief Datuk Amar Singh said the ten have been asked to come forward to assist in investigations under Section 147 of the Penal code for rioting.
Shah Alam MP Khalid Samad was greeted with jeers and threats by a group claiming to be Umno members from Pasir Salak and supporters of Datuk Seri Tajuddin Abdul Rahman, when he arrived at the Dewan Rakyat this morning.
The moment Khalid stepped out of his car, the group charged at him.
About five security personnel ran towards Khalid to protect the MP from the angry mob which was clawing its way to get to Khalid.
The scene degenerated into an ugly scuffle between the belligerent members of the group, which included a man claiming to be Tajuddin’s son, and the police.
Khalid, however, managed to get inside Parliament unharmed.
Amar said the incident was caused by a misunderstanding in Parliament between Khalid and Tajuddin.
Tajuddin's son, Firdaus Tajuddin, 34, was among those listed as individuals involved in the disturbance.
Police reports were lodged following the incident, though there were no reports of injuries.
Amar said stern action would be taken against members of the public, especially party supporters and politicians, who disobey the law and try to create chaos.
