Jeng Jeng Jeng! New Upin & Ipin film scores RM500K on first day of screening [VIDEO]

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia’s first live-action animation film Upin & Ipin: Jeng Jeng Jeng! collected close to RM500,000 at the local box office on its first day of screening, according to a post on the official Instagram account for Upin & Ipin.

The highly-anticipated film, which opened in cinemas nationwide yesterday, is distributed by Primeworks Distribution and produced by Les’ Copaque Production in partnership with KRU Studios.

Based on the widely popular Upin & Ipin TV series, the new film places the titular computer-animated twin 5-year-old boys in a live-action setting with human actors.

It tells the story of young orphan and diehard Upin & Ipin fan, Aqish (played by Puteri Balqis), who imagines the twins to be real.

When she discovers that the owner of the land on which her orphanage is built has returned to claim it back, Aqish enlists the help of Upin and Ipin to save the day.

Directed by Ainon Ariff and Erma Fatima, Upin & Ipin: Jeng Jeng Jeng! stars Awie, Gambit Saifullah, Remy Ishak and Sara Ali, with Asyiela Putri providing the voices of the two cute heroes.

The new film also represents another milestone for the brand after Upin & Ipin’s first feature film, Geng: Pengembaraan Bermula (2011), became Malaysia’s first computer-animated film.
