DOSH says possible structure failure, stop-work order issued on construction at KL Eco City

KUALA LUMPUR: The Department of Occupational Safety and Health Malaysia (DOSH) said initial investigations revealed that structure failure could have caused the collapsed of a pedestrian bridge at KL Eco City near Mid Valley Megamall yesterday.

Following the collapse of the bridge, the department has instructed a stop-work order at the construction site to allow investigations to take place.

DOSH Director General Datuk Ir Mohtar Musri said in a statement today that the department will refer to Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) and Kuala Lumpur City Hall with regards to the issue of the quality of materials used in the construction and drawback in design structure.

“We take every accidents that happen seriously especially when it involved death, be it construction workers or the public.

“Legal action will be taken if investigation reveals there is a breach of Occupational Safety and Health Act 1994 and Factories and Machinery Act 1967,” the statement said.
