KOTA KINABALU: The magistrate’s court here today charged a pub bouncer with the recent murder of a teenage boy.
Mohd Azmin Lidin, 28, from Kampung Cenderamata Likas, was charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murdering 18-year-old Yaacob Nasran between 3.30am and 4.30am outside the Siam Thai Bar, Jalan Asia City here, on Dec 15.
The accused appeared to smile when the charge was read to him before Magistrate Jessica Ombou Kakayun.
The offense carries a death penalty, if convicted.
No plea was recorded and Mohd Azmin was remanded further, as the offense has no provision for bail.
Kakayun fixed Feb 7 for re-mention of the case, pending necessary documents from the prosecution.
Prosecuting officer Inspector P. Nathan prosecuted, while lawyer Datuk Rakhbir Singh represented the defendant.
In the event on Dec 15, Yaacob, along with his brother and six other friends, were attacked by a group of men armed with swords.
Yaacob was slashed to death while protecting a friend from getting slashed.
Several others, including the deceased's brother, were injured.
