SUNGAI SIPUT: A 17-year-old teenager was charged with the murder of a 10-year-old disabled girl at the Magistrates Court here today.
The accused, only nodded when the charge under Section 302 of the Penal Code was read out to him in front of Magistrate Nurul Asyifa Redzuan.
No plea was recorded as the case falls under the High Court's purview.
The teen is accused of murdering Nuraina Humaira Rosli at a swamp in Kampung Bersah, Pos Kuala Mu, here between 2.30pm and 5pm on Aug 16.
If found guilty, he faces the death sentence or imprisonment for up to 40 years. If a person is not sentenced to death, they will receive at least 12 strokes of the cane.
Juvenile offenders must be imprisoned for a period deemed appropriate as per Section 97(2) of the Child Act.
Prosecution was handled by deputy public prosecutor RS Vitthiyeswary while the teenager was unrepresented.
The court set Oct 28 for the submission of chemical, pathology and DNA reports.
On Oct 17, Nuraina, a Primary Four student of SK Pos Kuala Mu was found more than a day after she was reported missing.
