KOTA KINABALU: A man sustained severe burns while attempting to escape a fire that engulfed his flat at Taman Nelly, Kolombong, here, early this morning.
Woo Chee Ke, 54, suffered burns to 80 per cent of his body and is currently receiving treatment at Queen Elizabeth II Hospital (HQE II).
Lintas Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) Chief, Senior Assistant Fire Superintendent Agustavia Joe Guasi, said they received an emergency call about the incident at 12.49am.
"A team of six personnel with a fire engine was dispatched to the scene.
"Upon arrival, firefighters found that a flat unit on the second floor was 20 per cent destroyed by the fire. The team quickly carried out extinguishing operations using one hose line and two water jets, with water sourced from the fire engine's tank," he said.
