KUALA LIPIS: A disabled man was killed when he was hit by a Senandung Timuran Express train on its way from Johor Baru Sentral towards Tumpat, Kelantan.
The man, Shari Johari, 50, from Kampung Telemin, Padang Tengku, is believed to have been trying to cross the railroad tracks when he was hit by the train, which was carrying 300 passengers.
District police chief Superintendent Azry Akmar Ayob said the police were informed of the incident by Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd (KTMB) auxiliary police at 6.30am today.
The incident occurred at KM234 Kuala Lipis-Chegar Perah.
“Shari died at the scene due to severe head and body injuries,” he said.
Azry said the victim's body was sent to the Lipis Hospital for a post-mortem examination. His family came to the hospital later to claim the body.
Meanwhile, KTMB East Coast manager Zaid Ibrahim warned the public against crossing railroad tracks to prevent any untoward incidents.
“We urge the public, especially those living near the tracks, to not use the tracks as shortcuts.”
He said five similar cases were recorded in the east coast this year, with two cases in Temangan, Lipis (2) and one case in Berangan.
