KOTA KINABALU: A 13-year-old boy was killed while crossing a road in Kampung Tebobon here last night.
The accident occurred around 9.40pm when a Perodua Axia, driven by a man in his 20s, collided with the pedestrian.
District police chief assistant commissioner Kasim Muda said the vehicle was travelling from Kota Kinabalu towards Bandar Sierra when the young pedestrian suddenly ran across the road.
The driver, unable to react in time, struck the boy, throwing him to the right side of the road.
"The attending medical officer confirmed that the boy had succumbed to severe injuries at the scene.
"Preliminary investigations suggest that the accident was primarily caused by the pedestrian's negligence, including failing to look for oncoming traffic before crossing the road.
"The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987," he said in a statement.
