KUALA LUMPUR: Former DAP vice-chairman Tunku Abdul Aziz Tunku Ibrahim has challenged Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir and Lim Kit Siang to make a statutory declaration that they have no political ambitions to become prime minister and deputy prime minister respectively.
"In the interest of honesty in political life, I would strongly urge Mukhriz and Lim Kit Siang to make a statutory declaration that they entertain no political ambitions to be PM or DPM, ever.
"Otherwise, don’t blame people who accuse both of them of trying to conceal from the Malays the fact that Lim Kit Siang will be the deputy prime ministerial candidate for the Pakatan alliance.
"Once they have made the statutory declaration, by all means, sue me. It is their right, if that is what they want to do," he said during a press conference here today.
Abdul Aziz issued the challenge a day after Mukhriz threatened to take legal action against him over his claim that Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Lim had reached a secret agreement that Mukhriz would become prime minister in the event the opposition wins the next general election.
Mukhriz is Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) deputy president, while Lim is DAP parliamentary leader. Mukhriz's father, Tun Mahathir, is PPBM chairman.
Both PPBM and the DAP recently entered an electoral pact to contest against Barisan Nasional (BN) in the upcoming general election, widely expected to be held this year.
