KUALA LUMPUR: Team Malaysia sensationally captured the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) crown at the World eSports Championships (WEC) in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, today (Nov 15).
Team Malaysia turned the tables on favourites the Philippines in the final with a 2-0 victory.
Earlier the Malaysians had lost 2-1 to the Philippines and finished second in Group B.
In the quarter-finals, Malaysia knocked out Turkey 2-1 and in the semi-finals, Malaysia ousted Indonesia 2-1.
In the final, the Malaysians got off to a perfect start by winning the first game, but had to wait for the second game which was delayed due to technical issues.
Team Malaysia comprised Selangor Red Giants (SRG) players Haqqullah "Sekys" Ahmad Shahrul Zaman, Hazziq "Stormi" Danish, Qayyum Ariffin "YumS" Mohd Suhairi, Ilman Zareef "Gojes" Zulkifli and Ealtond "Loleal" Rayner and Amir Zakwan "Zakqt" Mohd Noor from JP Niners.
This was the second time a Malaysian MLBB team won a world title. In July, SRG won the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) Mid-Season Cup (MSC) in Riyadh.
Team Malaysia pocketed the US$70,000 (RM313,000) first prize.
