KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has seized and impounded cash and gold bars worth about RM3 million following the arrest of a senior government official with a 'Datuk' title near here today.
MACC Deputy Chief Commissioner (Operations) Datuk Azam Baki said following the detention of the Federal ministry's secretary general, the agency also picked up another male suspect to facilitate the graft probe.
He said the 29-year-old man was suspected of playing a role in receiving and keeping the proceeds of the corrupt payments from contractors, suppliers and vendors on behalf of the secretary-general, aged 59.
"Both of them were detained around Subang Jaya at 8am today," he said in a statement.
Earlier, the secretary-general was detained at his residence in USJ, Subang Jaya on suspicion of abusing his post and position to accept bribes.
Meanwhile, according to sources, other items seized from the suspects were luxury watches, expensive handbags, fountain pens and foreign currencies. -- BERNAMA
