Beloved cartoonist Lat warded in hospital for heart complications

IPOH: Malaysia’s beloved cartoonist Datuk Mohd Nor Khalid, famously known as Lat, was warded at the Pantai Hospital here today due to a heart complication.

His wife, Datin Faezah Ahmad Zanzali confirmed this when contacted today.

Faezah said Lat, 65, had been receiving treatment at the hospital since Sunday and was discharged on Wednesday.

“However, this morning, he complained of feeling unwell. We have taken him to the hospital,” she said.

Faezah said Lat was to have been warded at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) here but there was no room.

She urged fellow Malaysians to pray for him.

“Please pray for him. I just got back after spending my whole night at the hospital yesterday. I hope people would give him some time before coming and visiting him,” she added.

Lat has published more than 20 volumes of cartoons in his illustrious career. He has also won various awards for his work, including the Fukuoka Asian Culture Prize in 2002.

His best known works include The Kampung Boy in 1979, which has since been translated into numerous languages worldwide.

His works mostly revolve around humorous observations of social aspects of Malaysia.
