Opposition's malicious rumours trigger withdrawal of RM500mil from Tabung Haji

BAGAN DATUK: Some RM500 million in savings has been withdrawn from Tabung Haji accounts following a malicious slander, which was said to have been making its round since last year.

Allegedly spread by irresponsible quarters on the institution, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom said this irresponsible act by the opposition leaders, in particular, Pandan MP Rafizi Ramli, had caused some 3,600 depositors to withdraw from the waiting list to perform their haj.

“These slanderous remarks against Tabung Haji have caused the depositors to withdraw their savings. Some of them (the depositors) had even wrote ‘I have lost trust in Tabung Haji’ in the feedback column when submitting their application form to withdraw their savings.

“This (negative criticism) has caused a sudden withdrawal in a huge sum,” he said after a briefing session in conjunction with the Perak Menteri Besar’s Retreat programme here today.

It was reported earlier that Rafizi has made various allegations on the financial position of Tabung Haji, inciting fear into the people’s minds.
