(Badminton) Sze Fei-Izzuddin stun Indonesian pair with first-ever final at M'sian Masters

SIBU: Despite a jittery start, Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani did not disappoint when they checked into their first ever GP Gold finals at the Malaysia Masters on Saturday.

The Malaysian backup men's doubles produced another stunning performance to see off former Olympic champion Markis Kido and his partner Hendra Aprida Gunawan from Indonesia 21-15, 21-13 in the last four stage at the Sibu Indoor Stadium.

Surprised with the outcome, Sze Fei-Izzuddin, both 20, are now determined to land the title especially in front of the home fans.

"We did not expect to get this far as our target was only to qualify for the quarter-finals.

"We were so nervous that we couldn't play our game at first in the opening game. Every time Kido jumped, our heart skipped a beat," said Sze Fei.

"Our coach (Cheah Soon Kit) then told us during the interval to not worry about anything, don't get distrated by the noise, just put every shuttle in and only attack when you can.

"Perhaps we had fitness and age on our side," added Izzuddin, who hails from Muar.

The Malaysian pair, tipped to follow in the footsteps of their more established seniors Goh V Shem-Tan Wee Kiong, play another Indonesian pair Berry Angriawan-Hardianto Hardianto on Sunday.

"Now that we are in the final, we want to go for the title. We hope to play one more good match tomorrow."
