KOTA BARU: A businessman has lodged a police report after finding out that his name was mentioned in a poison-pen letter to a mosque committee in Taman Kenangan recently, asking them to lower the volume of azan (call to prayer) in the morning.
Datuk Seri Sunny Ung denied writing the letter and said that he has no problem with the mosque committee members or the Muslim community living in the area.
"I would like to say that I am not the person who sent the letter to the mosque and I have no problem with the mosque's committee since staying here years ago.
"I have been friends with many of the committee members and will never interfere with their religious activities," he said.
To prove his innocence, he said he had lodged a police report denying to have ever written such letter.
Meanwhile, Malaysian Islamic Consumers Association of Kelantan has urged police to find the culprit behind the letter which had gone viral recently.
Its chief Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Fared Abdul Ghani said the police need to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter.
"We are not pointing fingers at anyone. We just want police to find the sender of the letter and bring him to justice." he said.
Fared said the speaker has been installed at the same location since the mosque was built 35 years ago and this was the first time the mosque's committee received such letter.
The letter was delivered to the house of the Masjid Aman committee chairman Azmi Mahmood on Jan 10.
