KUALA LUMPUR: The BA of Malaysia (BAM) is currently being investigated by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).
According to a credible source, a poison pen letter was sent to MACC, alleging that a high-ranking officer from BAM had been receiving an allowance without approval from the BAM council.
The source said that five officers from MACC were present at the BAM headquarters in Bukit Kiara on Tuesday (Nov 26) to examine a number of documents as part of their investigation.
"They examined (documents) and took meeting minutes that approved the allowance payment, that's all," said the source.
"Actually, all the allowance payments had been approved and followed the required procedures. Perhaps this investigation by MACC is part of their procedure after receiving a complaint.
"BAM gave full cooperation to the MACC officers involved in the investigation."
The source added that the allegations made could be due to envy.
Earlier today, BAM issued a statement confirming that MACC officers had visited their office last week to obtain certain information.
"BAM gave full cooperation to the MACC officers and they conducted their duties professionally," said the statement.
BAM, however, did not disclose the type of information MACC had been seeking.
Meanwhile, a source confirmed that MACC has already conducted an investigation into allegations of misconduct involving the top leadership of BAM.
Attempts are being made to obtain confirmation on the allegations from MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki.
