ALOR STAR: The Kedah government today announced Feb 9 as a holiday in conjunction with the Thaipusam celebration.
Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah, announcing the news, said the holiday applies to all civil servants and the people in the state.
He also urged the private sector to give time off for their workers.
“This holiday for Thaipusam is the state government's recognition of our multiracial and multi-ethnic society," he told reporters after chairing the weekly state executive council meeting at Wisma Darulaman here.
This is the fourth time the state government has made the declaration, having first done so in 2013.
