Kedah flood aid poster declared fake by state authorities

ALOR STAR: A poster circulating online, claiming that Kedah residents affected by floods can receive aid from the Implementation Coordination Unit (ICU) of the Prime Minister's Department, has been confirmed as fake.

The poster falsely claimed that Kedah residents could apply for aid following the RM13 million relief fund announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for flood repairs and compensation in the state.

In a statement today, the Kedah ICU clarified that it had not issued any infographic regarding flood aid for the state.

"The information displayed on the poster or infographic is false and was not released by the ICU of the Prime Minister's Department," the ICU stated in a post on its official Facebook page.

The ICU also urged the public to rely on its official social media channels for accurate updates.

On Sept 21, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced a RM13 million allocation for flood repairs and compensation in the state.

He said the funds would be managed by the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma), the Implementation Coordination Unit (ICU), and the State Secretary's Office.

Anwar added that this aid was in addition to the RM1,000 cash assistance already provided to each head of a family evacuated to relief centres since the floods began in mid-September.
