Cops get extended remand against skipper, crewman in Sabah catamaran boat tragedy

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah police today obtained an extended remand order against the skipper and crew member involved in the sunken catamaran boat tragedy.

The two men, aged 25 and 38, will now be detained until Sunday to facilitate investigations into the case. Their earlier remand order expired today.

Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Ramli Din confirmed the extension when contacted.

Both individuals have been detained since Monday under Section 304A of the Penal Code for causing death due to negligence.

Meanwhile, the 44-year-old boat owner who was detained on Monday at 4pm, remains under police custody until tomorrow.

The skipper and the boat crew were among the 25 who were rescued near Pulau Mengalum waters last Saturday.

The 20 were Chinese tourists and currently being treated at Queen Elizabeth Hospital. Three others perished in the ordeal.

Search and Rescue (SAR) operations continued today to find the missing six comprising five Chinese tourists and a crew member.
