KUCHING: The global scenario is ever evolving, requiring people to connect with the rest of the world, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak said.
These changes in the world scenario required people to master various languages in order for a nation to progress.
“Today’s world is different. The only way you can connect with the rest of the world is by mastering different languages.
“Apart from mastering English, which is the world’s lingua franca, it is also important to be proficient in other languages such as Mandarin since China is one of the largest world economies.
“And of course, mastering our national language, Bahasa Malaysia, is very important since it reflects our identity,” said Najib during his visit to the SJK Chung Hua 4 in Jalan Nanas here.
Najib said the government will continue to focus on providing quality education and character building for the next generation of Malaysians.
“We want to produce not only academically successful but also a generation with great values,” he said.
The prime minister, on an official working visit to Sarawak, was at the primary school today to officiate the school’s new academic building.
Najib had previously allocated RM1.5 million for the school to construct the new building. He said this project reflected the strong ties between the Federal and Sarawak government.
“We will continue working together to make a stronger Sarawak. A stronger Sarawak means a stronger Federal Government,” he said.
The prime minister added that Malaysia can only progress if its people continue to nurture good relations and good deeds among each other, a principle promoted under the Barisan Nasional administration.
Also present at the launching ceremony were Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Abang Openg and state Local Government Minister Prof Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian.
