Construction worker beheads colleague at K. Selangor building site

SHAH ALAM: Workplace envy led a Bangladeshi contract worker to behead his countryman at a construction site in Kuala Selangor here on Thursday.

The 29-year-old victim's headless body was found hanging from scaffolding on the 10th floor of an under-construction apartment in Jeram.

His head was later found on the first floor.

Kuala Selangor district police chief Superintendent Ruslan Abdullah said initial investigation revealed that the victim was murdered on the building's 11th floor, between 3.30pm and 4.40pm on Thursday.

"Police believe that the suspect tried to push the victim's body out of a window on the 11th floor, but it landed on the scaffolding one floor below.

Ruslan said the 32-year-old suspect, who had been working at the construction site as a sub-contract worker, fled the scene after the incident came to the attention of his employer and colleagues.

"Following this, police launched an investigation and managed to apprehend the suspect early this morning.

"Initial investigation revealed that the suspect was envious of the victim, whom he thought was their boss’ favourite employee," added Ruslan.

Police have secured a seven-day remand order against the suspect to facilitate investigations under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
