KUALA LUMPUR: SOME 25,000 jobs and training positions in industry giants are open for qualified and driven individuals as the Skim Latihan 1Malaysia (SL1M) open interview programme for the central zone kicks off on Feb 21.
The programme focuses on offering suitable careers and training opportunities to new graduates and jobseekers of all levels, setting a new and bright future in their career paths.
To be held at the Putra World Trade Centre on Tuesday and Wednesday, visitors will not only get to apply for jobs by dropping in their resumes, but they can also secure positions on the spot after attending interviews.
SL1M secretariat head Norashikin Datuk Ismail said interviews will be held by participating companies in booths, and jobseekers are encouraged to attend as many as possible to increase their chances of being hired.
“We urge those looking for jobs to attend the SL1M open interview regardless of their qualifications.
“Due to the extensive variety of companies that are on board to hire new faces, there are bound to be positions suited for everyone.
“There are positions requiring up to PhD qualifications, whereas some only require an applicant to know how to read,” she said.
This is SL1M’s biggest event based on the number of job and training positions available, Norashikin adds, and it is an opportunity that jobseekers should not miss. After the applicants have undergone the one-year training period under the SL1M programme, some may be absorbed by their sponsoring company.
However, not all of the sponsoring companies provide this opportunity
Norashikin said SL1M will ensure that its trainees graduate with knowledge and useful skills.
“In the programme, we train our participants on communication, problem-solving, how to be value-driven professionals and how to adopt and adapt good company practices.
“This means that even if they are not absorbed by their companies, they still gain valuable experience, skills and marketable values that enable them to seek other opportunities in the future.”
To join the SL1M training programme, the minimum qualification is a degree, while other positions are open to all levels of qualification.
During the open interview, celebrity Faizal Tahir and comedy group Zero will hold motivational talks about their journey to success, with the intention of encouraging jobseekers to strive for greatness.
Faizal said besides being able to do good by helping people get jobs and training, the event is an opportunity for everyone to be treated equally and not be hindered by low credentials.
“We live in a community and need each other to succeed. We should give opportunities to everyone regardless of their qualification. It is evident in myself and Zero that success can come from humble beginnings.”
Zero, comprising of brothers Mohd Syaiful Doli Sharif (Syaiful), Sharif Kadir Doli Sharif (Sharif) and Sharid Kunal Doli Sharif (Atu) said they knew of the struggle in finding jobs and the difficulty of providing for their family.
The programme is one way for them to give back to society, said Sharif, and they hope to do so by giving motivation and entertainment to the crowd.
In preparation for the event, Norashikin said jobseekers are advised to bring as many copies of their resumes as possible to give to potential employers.
They should also dress professionally and bring along a never-give-up attitude.
“There are more than 100 booths by well-known companies from all sectors and industries. Participating companies will be given a double tax deduction and other incentives,” she said.
Norashikin urged more companies to take part in this initiative as it provided an opportunity for them to give back to society.
“This is truly a win-win situation for all as jobseekers are given jobs, the companies get tax deductions, and the country is able to prosper with its human capital.”
After the central zone, the SL1M open interview programme will continue to five more zones to ensure that more graduates and jobseekers benefit from its offerings.
