BATU PAHAT: Police arrested two men and seized RM25,557.40 worth of cannabis during raids on two premises in Taman Melur here yesterday (Dec 21).
District police chief, Assistant Commissioner Shahrulanuar Mushaddat Abdullah, said today (Dec 22) that the men, aged 39 and 53, are believed to have been part of a syndicate distributing the contraband since Sept.
One of the men tested positive for tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), a psychoactive compound found in cannabis, he said.
The 8,244.32gm of cannabis were found at the two premises that were raided, which were used to repack the drugs prior to distribution.
Police confiscated a car, three motorcycles and RN1,231,00. The total value of the seizures is RM43,088.40.
The suspects were remanded until Dec 28. If convicted, they face either the death penalty or life imprisonment with caning.
