PUTRAJAYA: In the middle of a class session, a teacher tried to commit suicide by attempting to jump from the balcony next to his fourth-floor classroom at a secondary school here, this morning.
A source from the Putrajaya Fire and Rescue Department said it responded to a call over an attempted suicide at 10.19am and immediately sent its team to the scene.
"The 30-year-old male teacher is believed to have (physical health issues and suffers from) depression, and had tried to jump from the building during the class session.
"Another teacher, who was at the scene, managed to console him and foil his attempt.
"Our team was on standby at the fourth floor, as we feared that the teacher would act aggressively. However, we managed to control the situation," the source said.
He said the teacher was quickly ushered to a private room in the school and received preliminary treatment.
Medical officers later brought the victim to the Putrajaya Hospital for further treatment.
