KUALA LUMPUR: Closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera footage of a machete attack on four people by masked men at a restaurant in Nilai has gone viral.
A posting on X which featured three such clips has gotten more than 450,000 views and been reposted more than 1,700 times.
The longest of the clips show families eating at the restaurant when several men wearing masks appeared, all of whom were armed with machetes.
They attack a group of people eating at a table at the far end of the camera view. Another clip was from a camera nearer the victims.
The third clip shows the four men escaping in what appears to be a Toyota Camry after the attack.
Earlier today, Nilai police chief Superintendent Abdul Malik Hasim had said four men were hospitalised when a group of five men, all wearing masks, attacked them at a restaurant last night.
"Police received a report from a member of the public about four local men, aged between 44 and 59, who were reportedly attacked. The incident took place when the victims were inside a restaurant within the Nilai police jurisdiction," he said in a statement.
He said the motive behind the attack remains unclear and was still under investigation.
"The case is being investigated under Section 148 of the Penal Code for rioting with weapons and Section 326 of the Penal Code for causing grievous hurt with a weapon," he said.
Police advised the public to contact the nearest police station or the Nilai police headquarters operations room at 06-7902222 if they have any information related to the crime.
